australian spotted ducks

Australian Spotted ducks are tiny, quirky, pocket-sized charmers in the waterfowl world. They’re a bantam (eg. mini) duck breed known for their speckled plumage, bright personalities, and surprisingly good egg production for their size. Friendly and curious, they tend to integrate well with mixed flocks and are more “garden companion” than “practical homesteader.” They love to forage, don’t need a ton of space, and come in fun color varieties like greenhead, bluehead, and silver.

As of 2025, the Australian Spotted Duck is still listed as Critical on the Livestock Conservancy Priority List (fewer than 500 breeding birds, estimated fewer than 1,000 globally).
